Editorial Standards & Principles
Our commitment to accuracy, integrity, and evidence-based nutrition guidance for endurance athletes and active individuals across South Africa.
At Activenourishment, we believe transparent, rigorously reviewed content builds trust. Learn how we research, write, and correct our articles.
Our Publishing Principles
Evidence-Based Content
All nutrition guidance is grounded in peer-reviewed scientific research. We cite reputable sources including sports nutrition journals, university studies, and recognised health organisations.
Rigorous Fact-Checking
Every article undergoes multi-stage review. Claims are verified against published research. Data points are cross-referenced. Medical terminology is confirmed for accuracy before publication.
Transparency & Disclosure
We disclose potential conflicts of interest. If content is sponsored or influenced by partners, we clearly label it. Author credentials and affiliations are always visible.
Continuous Improvement
Nutrition science evolves. We update older articles when new evidence emerges. Corrections are published promptly and publicly. Your feedback helps us stay accurate.
Reader Accessibility
Complex science is explained in language accessible to athletes and fitness enthusiasts, not just professionals. We avoid jargon without explanation and provide context for all recommendations.
Independent Editorial Voice
Our writers are not hired to promote specific products or brands. Editorial decisions are made by our team based on reader value and accuracy, never external pressure.
Science-Based Disclaimers
We include appropriate disclaimers about individual variation and the importance of personal medical consultation. Our content informs but does not replace professional medical advice.
Inclusivity & Context
We acknowledge that nutrition needs vary by age, gender, body composition, and training intensity. Articles explore diverse perspectives and real-world application across different athlete profiles.
Our Editorial Team
Experienced nutrition professionals, certified coaches, and science communicators committed to delivering trustworthy content for endurance athletes.

Our Fact-Checking Process
Research & Literature Review
Writers begin with peer-reviewed sources including PubMed, Google Scholar, and sports nutrition journals. Each claim is traced back to original studies. We favour meta-analyses and systematic reviews over single studies.
Internal Editorial Review
Draft articles are reviewed by at least two team members: our lead researcher checks scientific accuracy, and our science communicator ensures clarity. Conflicting information is resolved by consultation.
Medical & Clinical Review
All content touching on health, performance, or recovery is reviewed by our medical advisor. We verify that recommendations are appropriate, disclaimers are included, and language does not overstep our scope.
Practitioner Feedback
Before publication, articles are shared with our practitioner advisor—a working coach and athlete. This ensures recommendations are practical, not just theoretically sound, and reflect real-world athlete needs.
Copy Editing & Final Sign-Off
Our content editor performs a final check for clarity, consistency, and factual accuracy. Only when all reviewers sign off does an article go live. Publication date and all reviewer initials are logged.
Corrections & Updates Policy
We are committed to accuracy. When errors are identified—by our team or by readers—we correct them transparently and document all changes.
How We Handle Errors
- Minor factual corrections are updated immediately. A note is added to the article timestamp.
- Significant errors (claims contradicted by new research, misleading statements) trigger a full review and article revision or retraction.
- Outdated information is updated when new evidence emerges. Update notes are published with the revised date.
- Retractions are rare but public. We explain why content was withdrawn and what readers should know instead.
Correction Log & Transparency
- Visible updates—When an article is corrected, a note appears at the top: "Updated [Date]: [Description of change]"
- Public log—We maintain a running list of all significant corrections, available in our FAQ or upon request.
- Reader notification—For major updates, we notify subscribers and social followers via email or post.
- Source attribution—We credit readers or experts who identify errors and help us improve.
